Daily Feline Prompt: Feline Compass

“Are you going out or not Tabby?”

“I am thinking bout it Mrs. Human, but it is not an easy decision. Everything is the same colour, completely flat and endless.”

“That’s beause is has snowed and has covered everything in white.”

“Mrs. Human I do not do colours, just shades and this is a mono shade, all the same: bright and dazzling. Open the window, perhaps it has a smell.”

“Snow doesn’t smell, it is just frozen water.”

“No way, water is water, like wet.”

“If you go out and put your paws in the snow, you will find that is also wet.”

“But it’s cold. I am not going to risk frostbite on a claw, it might break. Shut the window again, it is cold outsisde. Although wait a minute, I can see a mark in the snow. Someone has walked across the snow and survived.”

“That was Mr. Human who had to walk to the birdhouse to feed the birds.”

“Did he survive?”

“Of course he did, it is only snow. and the birds need their food. It is difficult to find in beneath the snow”

“Yes, I can only agree. We must feed the birds to enable them to get fat and remain healthy for the kill. My doggy friend Dusty has a sister that loves snow. She rolls in it and walks in it, but dogs are something completely different. That can even sniff snow, says their human. We felines are more into the meaning of life coupled with days spent in the shade of a tree. Imagine a feline rolling in snow, our fur would get wet, not to mention the whiskers getting frozen. I think I will have a sleep for a few hours. If I begin to meow in my sleep it will be a meowmare because of the snow. Wake me gently, I do not want to be absorbed by layers of snow. I might become a feline yeti.”

  1. Dear Tabby, My human says there are cats who like snow. I have no experience with that so I can’t say. We had some snow, but it’s mostly gone. There is still one patch on the north side of the fence where my “little” sister likes to lie and send telepathic messages to our human asking for more. Between us (I don’t want to hurt my human’s feelings) I don’t think our human has anything to do with snow. I think it comes from the sky. I advise doing only what makes you feel comfortable. Snow isn’t for everyone. Yours forever and ever, Dusty T. Dog

Mr. Human was saying things about cats liking snow, but I find it difficuilt to believe. As human he does not like snow, something about driving on it. He prefer to look out of the window as I do. Thank goodness he is feeding the birds, otherwise I might die of hunger. You see Dusty, there are even dogs that do not like snow. Perhaps your little big sister comes from that place where they only have snow. Were her mum and dad yeti’s? Snow comes down in big pieces and I stay indoors. It could be worse than the sky falling on my head if I stay outside. I can see it now “Feline fighting for its life after being hit by a snow flake”.

      • Hi Tabby, My “little” sister comes from here so that explains everything. If she were from California like my other sister, Mindy T. Dog, or me, she might not like it so much. What? Oh Mindy says she likes it fine. She says her fur is so thick she can’t even feel it. She also says she told you this herself and I should quit meddling. Oh well. Yrs. Always, DTD

No problem, we animals of the higher levels realise that humans like to meddle, we humour them. I am not sure where I come from, mum said it was a rooftop somewhere where she met her fate, or was that my litter sister’s dad. I am not sure, it can get quite confusing sometimes. I think that mum was also confused about the circumstances, but she said it was fun while it lasted.

  2. Dear Tabby, You might be purrrfectly right about some of it. My human has audaciously carried me from Tropical Bombay, where I was born, to cold north. It doesn’t snow here, but I enjoy sitting on top of her blanket in rabbit position (both hands and feet turned under the body). Caramel the Cat.

    • Meow Caramel (don’t those humans give us strange names?)
I am always right about everything, being once worshipped as a god in the old country. I have never been further than Switzerland, only by telepathy and computer. I also enjoy sitting on blankets, even covered by them. I prefer the circular position.

  3. Our sky is white today and I think we’re going to get a little of that white stuff later. There’s the smell of snow in the air and no matter WHAT she says, I can smell snow, too! If it isn’t too heavy, maybe we’ll go outside later and watch it fall from the clouds.
